lighthouse love
- no matter how far or wide you go,
- i promise to wait you
- like a meadow of flowers,
- i pray the sun holds me company as i stand here for you
- no moonlit sonnets for today,
- i’m tired of seeing the sun set when i’m with you
- i pray it holds it’s shine forever
- i pray it never ceases
- a candle wick love that lasts an eternity
- i promise to hold the sun on my shoulders so you can always find your way back to me
- a lighthouse love
- that promises
- no matter how dark the dusk
- no matter how deep the sea
- no matter how difficult it can be to see a way out of everything
- you’ll always find me
- and we’ll always find our way back to each other
- and we’ll always have
- one another
leave me to follow the wind
- leave me to follow the wind.
- i’ll walk beside the valley’s breath.
- spirit me away, light as paper.
- once i was like a new book, blank pages and stories ready to be written,
- but these paper weight chapters were too much to carry.
- i left them in all the wrong places with all the wrong people.
- sometimes it feels like it’s for the best.
- sometimes i find myself trying to rewrite the same stories with different people.
- a lust for shakespearean tragedy,
- and validation only through sacrifice.
- sometimes i feel like the murderer hiding the pen.
- today, i don’t want to remember what’s written inside
- today, i leave my short stories behind,
- today, i keep only what’s necessary, even if all that’s left is a single page
- then you’ll be free
- as light as paper
- following the wind
- maybe i’ll be free too?
- i hope it’ll land me somewhere new
- somewhere safelike sanctuary
- somewhere for me to write a new story
- somewhere where the weight of the chapter keeps me, holds me, but doesn’t break me somewhere.
- because i don’t Know,
- how many more pages i have left,
- and how many more times I can leave a story behind.
love like shoelaces
- momma says
- love like you tie shoelaces
- don’t hold it all together with one knot
- then wonder why it comes undone
- it’s good to double knot, then triple knot too
- if you say ‘you look beautiful’
- following it up with another, won’t cause no harm
- and a third one for good measure
- is all the better
- and at the end of it all,
- if you still find your laces trailing behind your shoes
- then that’s okay too
- as long as you know
- you put your best foot forward
- and you tied your best knots too
i loved you to creation
- i still have this beautiful ruined kingdom that we built together
- but empty castles are home to no one
- so i take this world we created,
- this love, these poetic memories.
- and give it back to the world that you both came and left to
- i leave this unprotected heart in the hands of others.
- this reality no longer dwells within this home.
- these poems no longer dwell on these shelves,
- i leave them with others.
- these words are nothing more than selfish desires
- all of our favorite moments are gone.
- a picture priced permanently at a thousand words,
- how many more until I can recreate our time together?
- how great the word price before I can spend another minute with you?
- i leave them with the wind
- as I leave this heart with others.
i saw you in a sunset
- i wrote a list of everything lovely about you
- before tearing it into a thousand pieces and tossing it into the wind
- so every time you feel a cool breeze that makes the warmest day lovely
- know, I taught the wind what it felt like to spend time with you
- and the wind so loved it, that it shared it with the waters
- they shaped themselves to hold every amazing detail about you
- they became as boundless as your beauty
- i taught them how to behold
- and the waters so loved it, that they shared it with the sky
- you become its favorite poem
- everytime it reads about you, the sky smiles, and a myriad of colors arc across the sky
- because you are lovely
- and the sky so loved it, that it handed the remaining pieces up for god to read
- and god so loved it, he shared your beauty with the rest of the world
- that’s why I see your smile in sunrises
- your eyes in meteor showers
- your presence in a field of flowers
- it’s glimpses of you
- so if you see your name written in sunsets
- i’m sorry
- i couldn't help but tell the world all about you
moonlight
- i hope to be your moonlight
- because the sun doesn’t have the privilege of looking into your eyes
- because i wish to spend the night with you as you tell me everything on your mind,
- like a window sill into your beautiful imagination
- because even when we find my light has dimmed, and the night sky is darkened all around,
- you’ll know that I’m still there
- forever taking up space in your sky
- and you in mine
dust to dust
- if god sends for me
- and I cross the river into my grandmother’s open arms
- my love for you will remain
- from dust to dust, till dust tucks in you in at night
- till the sun kisses you good morning on your cheek
- till the clouds hold you on days less fortunate
- the wind will sing your beauty, lovely
- and the stars will tell you tales every night
- this body won’t have the privilege of taking your hand
- but my love will always find ways to see you
motha nature
- don’t be surprised if my garden notices you
- if the lilies murmur at your entrance
- and the sunflowers brighten as you walk past them
- the buds just might unfurl to catch a glimpse of you
- and the fruit trees will extend to you their branches
- the flower beds motion and whisper
- "...more beautiful than mother...", they say
- don’t be surprised if my garden sings to you,
- i tell them all about your voice.
- they’re eager to share theirs.
- your name breathes life into the most wilted of flowers.
- even death can’t keep them
- from witnessing nature’s most beautiful occurrence
mountain top
- find me atop the tallest mountain
- i want to be the first to greet the light every morning
- baked treats and a mug of something warm
- if the sun felt lovely today,
- it’s because our morning talk was about you
- i promise the shadows of our conversation will carry your name
- if the sun hides itself today,
- it’s because your smile held enough light
- to warm the earth for a few days.
- i’ll bake something fresh everyday
- the anticipation of another rising
